Back   Forward

David Muxo in front of the mission home in Salt Lake in June 1962. The prior week, before entering the Mission Home, my mother had literally run into David O. McKay, almost knocked him down. She introduced us and he wished me all the best during my mission.
Our district at the Language Training Mission in Provo. Standing in the back are left to right: Dennis Taylor, Elder Bingham, Elder Anderson, and Sister Wardle. Kneeling in front are Elder Erickson, me, Allen Black, and Elder Bullock. I may have Erickson and Bullock reversed.
We were the Valparaiso District at the LTM. Dennis, Allen and I were going to Central America, but the rest were going to Chile. Valparaiso is a Chilean city, and the Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala.
The second lesson. We practiced on anyone (or anything, even cats) who would listen. Here Sister Wardle is giving the lesson using a flannel board. Her investigator, Elder Anderson, used to sing "When Sonny Gets Blue", a popular song of the time, constantly. Drove us nuts. To this day I can't hear it without cringing.
